Billerud scores top marks in Folksam’s climate index

Each year Folksam, the Swedish insurance company, analyses how listed Swedish companies perform with their climate work, carbon dioxide emissions and reporting of emissions. Billerud is the only forest company to make the list of top companies to be awarded with five stars. Folksam supports their assessment by stating that Billerud’s climate work has a very high standard and that the quality of the company’s reporting of its carbon dioxide emissions is also very good. For its climate work overall, Folksam awarded Billerud five stars out of a possible five. ”We are proud of this excellent result and we will continue the long-term work of reducing our consumption of fossil fuels and instead utilising the bio-fuel that we produce within the company,” comments Per Lindberg, President and CEO of Billerud AB. Billerud is pro-active in its environmental work and all of the company’s mills have ISO 14001 certification. The Swedish units are accredited with EMAS and improving energy efficiency while replacing fossil fuels with bio-fuel is a top priority for the mills. Bio-fuel currently accounts for 90% of the fuel requirement for heating and electricity production. Billerud also aims to reduce the amount of truck-based transport, while increasing the amount of train and boat transport. At the present time 39% of total transportation is by train and 56% is by boat. Stockholm, 7 November 2005 Billerud AB (publ) Per Lindberg President and CEO
