PIDA celebrates 10 years as international competition

When BillerudKorsnäs’ design competition PIDA - Packaging Impact Design Award celebrates ten years as an international competition, participants are given a broader challenge compared to previous years, and it is also based on BillerudKorsnäs’ own mission: Challenge conventional packaging for a sustainable future. The task is essentially to develop an innovative package that both stands out in the shelves and adds high customer value while it also considers environmental impact.

"PIDA is important for BillerudKorsnäs for a number of reasons. The competition gives us an opportunity to gather brand owners and converters and give them the chance to meet and inspire new generation designers. And the contestants get a chance to show off their projects and get valuable feedback. For many contestants, PIDA is also the first meeting with their prospective employer. Through PIDA, BillerudKorsnäs gets the opportunity to contribute to the development of packaging construction and design, "says Magnus Levinsson, Business Segment Director Cartonboard.

New to this year is the introduction of a new price category for sustainability and the set-up of a completely new award 'People's Choice' where the public is invited to vote and appoint their own winner via Facebook.

"With the Facebook competition, we want to spread more awareness about PIDA and show off the amazing projects we have received for a larger audience than those who have the opportunity to attend the event. By allowing everyone to vote, we also give more opportunities to engage in design that challenges and that contributes to a more sustainable future, "says Elin Li, Project Manager PIDA.

As always, an overall winner is selected for each country and competition that receives the 'PIDA Gold Award'. In addition to the overall winner, the jury will also appoint winners in the following categories: Sustainability, Innovation, User friendliness and Shelf Impact.

This year's Swedish PIDA event and award ceremony will be held on May 23 in Stockholm. The French edition will be held June 22 in France at the ‘Make-up in Paris’ fair and the German competition will take place on November 9. Read more about PIDA here.
