Paper bags – the sustainable alternative

A growing number of countries are banning single-use plastic bags. Paper bags are a more attractive and climate-smart smart alternative that don’t risk ending up in the oceans as hazardous litter. Are you ready to take a small step to change the world?

Faced with polluted oceans and a plastic mountain in grocery stores, people all over the world are looking for alternatives to single-use plastic. Paper bags are a natural choice. Made from 100% renewable fibres from responsibly managed forests, our kraft paper for bags is both strong, resilient and food safe.

Paper bags can take the weight

But are paper bags really as strong as plastic bags? The answer is yes. Just like single-use plastic carrier bags, paper carrier bags must be able to hold at least 11 kg. We have tested carrier bags made of our Xpression Tough paper for up to 17 kg and above. And used them as an alternative to kettle bells.

Paper bags are fish-friendly

In 2016, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the World Economic Forum, with analytical support from McKinsey & Company, launched the report The New Plastics Economy – Rethinking the future of plastics. One alarming finding was that if nothing is done, there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans by 2050.
