Prestigious award to Hinoki

The demand for naturally sustainable packaging solutions has never been greater. This is confirmed by Isabelle Dahlborg Lidström and Liselotte Tingvall from the design and innovation agency NINE, a subsidiary of BillerudKorsnäs. Both Isabelle and Liselotte are members of the working group that won Best of Show for its much-talked-about Hinoki packaging at the prestigious The Dieline awards.

We at BillerudKorsnäs are very pleased with the working group’s results, which have generated an innovative packaging solution and international attention in various channels. The award confirms several trends in the packaging world, which places ever-increasing demands on sustainable packaging.

We have met a number of customers that are looking for new ways to develop their packaging solutions; choice of material is important and we see a desire to minimise the use of plastic

The cosmetics and beauty market is dependent on packaging and there are development opportunities in this area in terms of the sustainability category. In this particular case, there is a focus on the needs of travellers regarding having the correct sized packaging to allow carrying in hand luggage. There are also high demands on the actual packaging material, which must be free from preservatives and thereby a completely organic product forming an environmentally friendly packaging solution. This was the idea and driving force behind the development of Hinoki as a packaging solution.

In order to create quality, collaboration and the combination of several skills is required, such as insight, brand strategy, industrial and graphic design. A key element of the success of Hinoki is the close cooperation with Packaging Paper at BillerudKorsnäs
Liselotte Tingvall

The packaging is made of our Fibreform material, which is extremely stretchable and makes it possible to create new packaging solutions in all manner of shapes. We believe that Hinoki has a bright future, and the aim is to launch a new packaging system in the end customer market within 1-3 years.
